About me
Bart Heirweg: nature photographer in search of beauty
Nature photography has always been in my blood. As a child I spent my time outdoors rather than indoors, furthering my love and interest for nature. For years I was an impassioned ornithologist and it did not take long before I made the transition from binoculars to camera. Being at the right place at the right time with the perfect lighting: that’s my aim. That’s when I allow myself to be dazzled by the power and beauty of nature. And because I wanted to hold on to those moments forever, becoming a nature photographer was the perfect choice.
Specialised landscape photography
Landscapes took up an increasingly prominent place in my photographs, and as a result it was clear that a new landscape photographer had been born. Looking through the viewfinder of your camera and watching the landscape, light, and composition merge into a harmonious whole: it is a truly amazing feeling. When I go out to take photographers, I scout the area meticulously and let it impact upon me. After that, I patiently wait for the perfect moment to take that one photograph which makes it all worthwhile.
Professional nature photographer
I also aim to inspire other photographers with my work as both a nature photographer and an autodidact. That is why for the past few years I have organised workshops, have given lectures and presentations, and have frequently published photographs and articles in national and international photography magazines. My entries subsequently won various prizes at home and abroad. That is why in 2011 I took a leap of faith: I became a full-time professional landscape photographer for amongst others ngo’s, governments, tourist offices, advertising agencies, and photography magazines.
Landscape photography: sharing experiences
For me there is nothing more beautiful than life as a landscape photographer. When I get up at the crack of dawn and walk through the fields, I briefly feel like I am alone in the world and enjoy the peace and quiet. Each day I am amazed by nature in all its glory. As a nature photographer I am able to share these experiences with others. In this respect, I wrote several chapters of Praktijkboek landschapsfotografie and am currently working on a photography book on the Great War, which will be available for purchase soon.
