Photographic trip Slovenia: Autumn in the Julian Alps

Capture the wild nature and colourful autumn scenes of this pristine country

Triglav National Park
This photographic trip will take us to Triglav National Park in the centre of the Julian Alps. The park is named after the imposing Triglav mountain. Its height of 2864 metres makes it, literally and figuratively, the highpoint of the park. Slovenia’s only national park is located in the northwest of the country and lies adjacent to the Italian and Austrian border. With a surface area of nearly 880 km² it covers approx. 3% of the whole country. In other words, ample room and plenty of opportunities to capture some fabulous mountain landscapes.

Programme
We visit Slovenia at the height of the autumn. The mountainsides colour orange from the beech trees and golden yellow from the larches and birches. Our base camp will be the ski resort of Kranskja Gora. From here we will be exploring the park in every direction. We will visit the beautiful lake Bled which often is covered in mist in the early hours of the morning, making it an enchanting backdrop. Nearby our accommodation we also find the very photogenic Jasna Lake, which in still conditions reflects the Prisojnik mountain, with it height of 2500 m, in a mesmerizing way.
We will also ascend and explore the Vrsic and Mangrt mountain passes. At a height of a mere 2000 metres we will not only be photographing the vast mountain landscapes and misty valleys, but we will also concentrate on the abstract details of the colourful mountainsides. And finally we will also visit the Zelenci nature reserve with its azure blue lakes and the Vintgar Gorge along the meandering Radovna river. There is also a chance we can combine these fabulous autumn colours with the first cold snap of the oncoming winter. In brief: a photographic trip which will bring you to the most beautiful spots of the national park under the best conditions possible.
Is this workshop right for you?
Accessible to photographers of all levels with a good physical condition. Triglav National Park is rather vast. So now and again we will have to hike to get to our location. Autumn in the Alps is characterised by variable weather. Very interesting at photographic level, but often very unpredictable. Be prepared for different weather conditions. This is the reason why no detailed programme is published. Every day we look at the weather conditions and decide on our itinerary.
