Macro photography workshop
This workshop intends to explore the variety in macro and close-up photography as well as to demonstrate and practice creative techniques in the field. We will look at camera controls, shutter speed and aperture, exposure, depth of field and focusing. Furthermore we will also learn about field craft, which plays an immensely important role in close-up photography.
The day will start with an early morning trip in the field, as insects are a lot more approachable then and might also be covered with dew drops. Furthermore by being out in the field at dawn we will be able to take advantage of the soft and warm light of sunrise.
During the midday hours we will have a short presentation on macro & close-up photography, followed by briefings on equipment selection, composition, supporting your camera, locating the subject and the importance of preparation. Afterwards we will evaluate our pictures on a big screen and learn from each other’s skills and mistakes. We will also take the time to get to know each other and exchange useful tips and information.
We will adopt a flexible approach to our photo locations and will be guided by the day’s weather.
At the end of the day, each participant will receive a 40 page course book (pdf download) embracing all aspects of nature photography, including the main concepts that came up during the workshop. After the workshop each participant can ask feedback on images or information about camera material and techniques free of charge.
This workshop macro photography is suited for photographers using a SLR camera and a macro or telephoto lens. If you don’t have that kind of equipment you can contact me in advance to see if I could lend you some of my material. If you have a tripod and laptop, be sure to bring them as well. Participants should bring their own lunch.
Bear in mind that we will be working close to the ground, so be sure to wear appropriate clothing and a decent set of waterproof walking shoes or boots. This workshop does not include a personal or equipment insurance, nor transport compensation.
Mind you, this macro photography workshop will only take place when the minimum number of participants is reached before the last day of subscription.
