Landscape photography workshop Damme and Bruges

The human influence on the Flemish landscape is becoming increasingly apparent. This should, however, not always be seen as a negative development. During this workshop we will focus on the cultural landscape and visit the picturesque village Damme. This place is known for its beautiful streams: the Damse Vaart and the Schipdonck canal. Here you can find perfectly symmetric planted tree rows, that reflect beautifully in still water.

We start early at the Damse vaart to photograph at first light. Next to recognising, anticipating on and making use of light, we will also focus on making a good composition. Learning to successfully shoot a cultural landscape, we will see that the use of symmetry and repetition are important points for attention. Furthermore we will also engross ourselves in the use of polarization, graduated and neutral density filters.

At noon we will eat our packed lunch in a conference room nearby, where we will take the time to evaluate our pictures on a large screen.

In the afternoon we will visit the centre of Bruges where we will be photographing the beautiful historical buildings and their reflection in the canals. We will stay around until dusk when all the lights go on and will photograph the city by night.

Each participant should bring his or her own camera equipment (digital reflex camera), including a firm tripod, and a packed lunch. If you are in the possession of a laptop, feel free to bring it along. Don’t forget to wear adjusted winter gear and sturdy walking shoes. Mind you, this workshop aims at photographers with some experience and is not suited for the absolute beginner.

Afterwards each participant can ask for free feedback on pictures or advise about camera equipment and technique.

The workshop yesterday was very enriching but I was very angry with myself when my tripod collapsed. Fortunately you were able to solve that problem and provide me with a backup tripod. Thanks again!
