Basics of nature photography workshop
This workshop is organized for the beginning nature photographer and offers instructions on the basics of nature photography, including aperture and shutter speed, exposure, composition and the use of tripods and filters. I will also go beyond the basics and provide a list of tips and tricks that will help to improve your photographic skills. The training will cover most aspects of nature photography, including landscape and macro photography. Each participant should bring all his camera equipment (a digital reflex camera is preferred) and a tripod if possible. If you have a laptop it might be handy to bring it as well.
Our day will consist of an early morning and late afternoon trip in the field and we will visit at least two locations, offering various photographic opportunities. By being out in the field before sunrise we will take advantage of the most beautiful moment of the day, paying extra attention to the quality and use of light. Furthermore, we will focus, among other things, on camera techniques, composition, exposure and the importance of preparation.
During the midday hours we will discuss and evaluate our pictures on a big screen and learn from each other’s skills and mistakes. We will also take the time to get to know each other and exchange useful tips and information.
At the end of the day, each participant will receive a 40 page course book (pdf download) embracing all aspects of nature photography, including the main concepts that came up during the workshop. After the workshop each participant can ask feedback on images or information about camera material and techniques free of charge.
Depending on the weather we will visit the Langemeersen, a nature reserve in the valley of the Schelde and the Brakelbos, a large mixed broadleaf forest in the heart of the Flemish Ardennes. However, these locations are not fixed yet, as they might change according to the participant’s preferences. I will contact each participant in advance to determine what you want to get out of this day and subsequently customize the program fitting your personal needs and desires. Mind you, this nature photography workshop will only take place when the minimum number of participants is reached before the last day of subscription.
Be sure to wear appropriate clothing and a decent set of waterproof walking shoes or boots. Participants should bring their own lunch. This workshop does not include a personal or equipment insurance, nor transport compensation.
