Autumn
It is November now, days are getting colder, autumn colours are fading fast and the season is now slowly running to its end. For most people autumn is nothing more than the unmistakable proof that winter is coming, but for a landscape photographer this probably is the most beautiful and exciting time of the year. The variety and abundance of colours provide the perfect material for some nice seasonal shots. Furthermore the relatively warm days and cold nights are the ideal conditions to get some beautiful dew or mist in the morning, making it possible to get some very atmospheric or moody images.
I spent the past few weekends in the Ardennes near Spa. In these areas there is actually still some real nature left: rolling hills and elevations are separated by wide valleys, covered with woodland and crossed by winding streams or small rivers. The excess of trees and the subsequent variety in colours makes the Ardennes the perfect place for autumn photography. At times it made me think that I was visiting Norway or Canada instead of Belgium.
During the weekends I spent there, the weather was pretty dull, but the soft light of the overcast days allowed fall foliage to show their true colours and enabled me to shoot various kinds of abstracts and fall colours all day long. A collection of images of the Ardennes can be found in the new “Recent work” portfolio on the website.
During my stay in the Ardennes I also received some good news on one of the competitions I had entered some time ago. My panoramic image of Corfe Castle got Commended in the Classic View category in the Take A View Landscape Photographer of the year (UK) photo contest. My image will be at display in the National Theatre in London from December until January and will be published in the Landscape Photographer of the Year – Collection 03 book.
With the Christmas period ahead, you might be looking for the ideal Christmas gift? In my online shop I now offer a collection of calendars for 2010. You can choose between an eye-catching A3 sized wall calendar, a stylish A3 double page calendar or a cool A4 wall calendar. Or what about giving a workshop as a gift? The one-on-one nature photography workshop is the ideal way to improve one’s skills. During these workshops I give personalized instructions tailored to the participant’s personal interests and knowledge. A workshop gift is presented in a stylish gift wrap and could fit perfectly under your Christmas tree.
Furthermore the workshops I am organizing are doing very well. Although the weather failed us that day, the workshop 'basics of nature photography' went very well and I can say that all participants where very positive about the day. There are already plans on organizing a similar workshop next year, but more on that later.
