Workflow and image editing for Nature Photographers

Many photographers find selecting and editing photographs a bigger task than making  the images themselves. Do you also wish it could be done easier? Then book your place for the Workflow and image editing for Nature Photographers Workshop and learn to work more efficiently with your photographs.

Photography starts in the field, but often ends up behind the computer. A good workflow will help you on your way.”

Workflow and editing.

This workshop teaches you how to develop a convenient workflow, adapted to the needs of nature and landscape photographers. On the basis of my own photographs I illustrate how I finish my photographs and which settings I use. I also explain how best to organise the files on your computer and how to setup a catalogue. This workshop does not have the intention to discuss Lightroom and Photoshop from start to finish.

Programme

In addition to a general introduction to the different file formats and the importance of shooting in RAW, we start with importing the memory card into Lightroom. We go through several steps including:

  • Import, archive management and folder structure, assign keywords and metadata
  • Image selection, collections, tags and search possibilities
  • Image editing and optimisation: histogram, white balance, highlight and shadows, contrast, saturation and vibrancy, colour hue curve, HSL, sharpen, lens correction and camera calibration
  • Global and local adjustments using the brush or graduated filters
  • Removal of dust
  • Export and output as a contact sheet or web gallery
  • Simplify this workflow by using presets

Next, we look at the added value Photoshop can offer. Photoshop is better suited for complex selections, retouching, creating panoramas, focus stacking, exposure blending and resizing images. We also learn how to edit an image and optimise it in Photoshop, including using masks and adjustment layers. We also see how to simplify certain tasks in Photoshop using actions and droplets. Finally, we also look at how you can backup your work in a reliable, simple way.
