About Bart Heirweg
As a child I was always more likely to be found outdoors than indoors. I believe it was back then I developed my strong interest in nature and outdoor life. I started off as a convinced birdwatcher, but fairly soon I shifted to photography. Being there at the right time, the right place and with the best light, I often get overwhelmed by the power and beauty of nature. However, realizing I was the only one to witness these moments of nature at its best, I chose to put them on film.
By now, I have left amateur photography behind me and chose to narrow my focus. My heart goes out to landscape photography, as I get a thrill every single time I look through my viewfinder and detect that light, composition and location all blend in perfectly. Whenever I am out in the field I try to familiarize with the environment first and then I quietly wait for the perfect moment to take that one special picture. It’s a feeling hard to describe: adrenaline shots as only a real landscape photographer knows them. However, I know that I still have much to learn and by constantly fine-tuning my skills, I’m working towards the day I will be able to call myself a professional landscape photographer.
In the end, it all comes down to the fact that when photographing, I finally find the peace and quiet I so miss in today’s world. Every day again the beauty of nature surprises and delights me: photography is my way of sharing this unique feeling with others.
For those of you eager to know more about my equipment: I currently use a Canon Eos 5D and 5D mark II for landscape photography and Canon Eos 40D for macro and bird photography with lenses ranging from 17mm to 400mm. Furthermore I almost always use a Gitzo GT3541LS tripod with a RSS BH-55 ball head, a set of Lee filters and a remote release when shooting landscapes.
